EllyTools is a curated collection of free online tools for the everyday tasks that pop up at home, school, and work — resizing photos for a school project, shrinking a PDF before emailing it, double-checking a tip at dinner, generating a strong password, or computing how much that sale really saves you. We built EllyTools because we kept reaching for these tools ourselves and got tired of pop-up ads, shady downloads, mandatory sign-ups, and the uncomfortable feeling of uploading personal files to a stranger's server.
Our principles
We chose three principles up front and we've kept them as the site has grown to over a hundred tools. Every new tool is judged against these principles before it ships.
1. Your files never leave your device
Every tool that processes a file — image resize, PDF merge, video to GIF, QR scanner — runs entirely in your browser. There is no upload step, no server-side processing, and no temporary copy stored anywhere. We physically cannot see what you are working on, even if we wanted to. This isn't a policy we promise to follow; it's the architecture we built. Open the browser's Network tab while you use the tool and you'll see no file traffic at all.
2. No accounts, no paywalls, no limits
You don't need an email address to use EllyTools. There is no premium tier, no "process up to 5 files per day" restriction, no watermark on the output. The whole site is free for everyone, forever. We pay for the hosting through unobtrusive display advertising — never via a paywall on the tool itself.
3. Fast and frictionless on every device
Tools should open and run in seconds, on phones as well as on desktops. We keep the interface dense in features but light in weight: no heavy frameworks, no slow loading screens, no half-broken "mobile-friendly" layouts. If a tool needs more processing power than the average phone has, we either optimize it or rebuild it differently.
What we offer
We currently have over 100 tools across six broad categories. Every tool is handcrafted — we don't white-label or rehost other people's work — and each one tries to be the simplest, fastest possible interface for its task.
- Image tools. Resize, crop, compress, convert formats, remove backgrounds, blur, rotate, watermark, generate icons and favicons, and dozens of social-media presets.
- PDF and file tools. Merge, split, compress, convert to and from images, remove pages, JPG-to-PDF, screenshots-to-PDF.
- Calculators. Percentages, currency, tip, discount, sales tax, BMI, calorie, age, date, business days, loan, compound interest, and unit conversions for clothing, shoes, rings, time zones, and more.
- Text tools. Word counter, fancy text generator, case converter, line break remover, JSON formatter, slug generator, hash generator, Lorem Ipsum, base64, URL encoder, Markdown preview, and keyword density.
- Color tools. Color converter, palette generator, palette from image, gradient generator, contrast checker, color blindness simulator, random color picker.
- Utility tools. QR code generator, password generator, UUID generator, barcode generator, typing speed test, server time, timestamp converter, Pomodoro timer.
Why browser-based, really
Browser-based isn't just a privacy nicety — it has practical advantages most users underestimate. Tools work offline once the page has loaded, so you can resize photos on a plane. Large files don't need to upload over a slow connection before processing can begin. There is no daily quota that resets at midnight, no "our servers are busy" error, no nation-level blocking because the work happens on your device. And when a tool ages out, it doesn't take your data hostage — there is nothing on a server to lose.
The trade-off is that very large jobs (compressing a 100-frame video, OCR-ing a 500-page PDF) can be slower on your device than on a powerful server. We accept that trade-off because privacy is the principle that makes everything else trustworthy.
How we make money
EllyTools is supported by display advertising on the site. We do not sell user data — we have no user data to sell. We do not use intrusive interstitial ads, autoplaying video, or anything that interferes with the tool itself. Ads appear in a fixed banner area below the tool and in a sidebar on wide screens. Disable them in your ad blocker if you prefer; the tools will still work.
Languages and regions
The interface is currently available in English and Korean, with translation support for additional languages on individual pages. We focus our editorial quality on English and Korean because that is where the team can ensure high-quality content. Roadmap
The tool roster is open-ended. Recent additions include large font and icon libraries, color blindness simulation, image metadata viewer, video thumbnail generator, and a passport photo maker. We add new tools based on user requests and our own daily friction points. If something you use weekly isn't on EllyTools yet, the easiest way to get it added is to tell us — most tools take us less than a week from request to launch.
